Transformative

Working with Grant Walsh has been one of the most transformative leadership experience of my career. Grant has the rare ability to combine wisdom, clarity and accountability in a way that elevates both your thinking and your performance. He doesn’t just give advice — he reshapes how you see the challenge, the people and yourself as a leader. His guidance helped me rebuild with purpose, stay grounded under pressure and lead with confidence during some of the most difficult seasons of my life.

Grant is the kind of advisor every leader hopes to find: direct, principled and deeply invested in your growth. I’m a better man, father and leader because of his influence.

Fiduciary Steward

As we welcome the new year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your extraordinary leadership and guidance. Your steady hand and principled vision continue to define the very best of modern governance.

It has been an honour to serve on this board under your chairmanship. During my transition — while pursuing my designation, moving to a new role, and integrating into this governance body — your warmth, encouragement, and confidence in my contributions have meant a great deal. Your support, grounded in genuine collegiality, reflects the culture of trust and excellence you have built.

Your leadership represents the model of today’s fiduciary steward: disciplined yet compassionate, strategic yet pragmatic. You bring coherence to complex discussions, clarity to competing priorities, and an unwavering focus on accountability and purpose. These qualities not only inspire confidence among directs but strengthen the board’s ability to deliver measurable impact to those we ultimately serve.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue contributing to our shared mission under your exemplary guidance. Your vision and steady leadership continue to inspire me and the entire board to strive for excellence.

Modern Corporate Goverance

It is my distinct honour to offer my strongest recommendation for Grant B. Walsh, Chair of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Co-Chair of the WISE Trust Board of Governors. As a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA; CPA-US), lawyer licensed in Ontario, and senior human resources executive, I have the privilege of serving as Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee for both the WSIB and the WISE Trust. From this unique vantage point — at the intersection of governance, finance, legal stewardship and people strategy — I have been able to observe first-hand the extraordinary leadership and integrity that Grant brings to every aspect of his work.

Grant Walsh is, in every sense, a master of modern corporate governance. His ability to synthesize complex financial, operational and human-capital considerations into coherent strategic direction is unmatched. As Chair of WSIB, he leads one of Ontario’s most consequential public institutions, responsible for the financial security and well-being of millions of workers and hundreds of thousands of employers. In this role, he exemplifies not only fiduciary discipline but a profound commitment to public service that sets the tone for the entire organization.

In parallel, as Co-Chair of the WISE Trust Board of Governors, Grant plays a central role in stewarding a jointly sponsored pension plan that impacts the lives and retirements of thousands of Ontarians. His governance philosophy — grounded in intergenerational fairness, sustainability and evidence-based decision-making — has strengthened the Trust’s credibility, stability and long-term resilience.

As Chair of Audit & Finance, I have had numerous opportunities to collaborate with him on issues of financial management, risk oversight, valuation policy and strategic investment governance. His clarity of thought, steadiness under pressure and unwavering commitment to fiduciary duty have been nothing short of exemplary.

Grant’s impact, however, extends far beyond WSIB and WISE Trust. His career reflects over three decades of executive leadership across health care, real estate, insurance and national-scale service enterprises. He has served on more than 30 boards, chaired major Crown corporations, and led complex organizations through periods of transformation and operational renewal. That breadth of experience — coupled with his intellectual humility and ability to guide boards through difficult, multi-variable decisions — is precisely what distinguishes him as one of Canada’s most capable governance leaders.

From my perspective as a professional grounded in finance, law, HR governance and organizational stewardship, I have rarely encountered a leader who brings such a balanced blend of strategic vision, financial literacy, operational depth and values-driven leadership. Grant commands respect in the boardroom not by force, but through integrity, clarity and the authenticity of someone who understands what true governance demands: courage, prudence, accountability and an unwavering respect for the people and institutions we serve.

It is without hesitation that I recommend Grant B. Walsh for any position of leadership, governance responsibility or strategic stewardship. His ability to elevate organizations, inspire teams and make principled decisions in the face of complexity sets him apart as one of the most exceptional leaders I have had the privilege of working alongside.

Community Commitment

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Grant for more than twenty-five years. Grant first became my mentor during my undergraduate studies at McMaster University, where he supervised and guided me throughout my paid student practicum at St. Peter’s Health System in 2001. His leadership, generosity and deep commitment to professional development left a lasting impact on my career and personal growth.

From the beginning, Grant exemplified the qualities of an exceptional mentor —knowledgeable, supportive and genuinely invested in the success of his students. He consistently created opportunities for learning and encouraged critical thinking, professionalism and compassionate care. His mentorship extended far beyond the boundaries of my practicum — over the past twenty-five years, he has remained not only a trusted advisor but also a valued friend.

Grant’s commitment to the community is equally noteworthy. He generously provided many hours of pro bono consultation to Foyer Richelieu, Welland, offering strategic insight, operational guidance and unwavering support. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in helping us secure 128 long-term care licenses, a milestone that had a profound and positive impact on the organization and the broader francophone community we serve.

Grant is a person of exceptional integrity, professionalism, intelligence and dedication. His influence has shaped countless initiatives and individuals, myself included. I offer my highest recommendation for him in any role or capacity that values leadership, vision and community-minded service.

Intelligent Exchange

I know Grant Walsh personally and professionally. We have developed a personal friendship as we seek opportunities for the intelligent exchange of thoughts and ideas. In his role as Chair of WSIB, I serve as Counsel to the Chair.

I would recommend Grant to anyone where his governance skills and leadership would be valued.

Integrity in Spades

I worked with Grant for many years when he was CEO of St. Peters Hospital and Health system, in Hamilton. Grant was an amazing boss, the best I ever had. When you came to work in the morning, Grant was by the front door greeting all the workers and ready to hear about any issues they had. He knew absolutely everyone in the place by first name. He walked about all the time and had his finger on the pulse. He made huge changes and expanded our services and capacity.

He cared about the staff and listened to us. He was insightful, fair and hard working. He was down to earth, honest and trustworthy. He has integrity in spades. I loved the guy, would have run through walls for him and we all would. He expanded our hospital to include a home care program and grew our business and profile like nothing I have ever seen before.

He is just a great person, one of the ones you remember fondly and with huge affection.

Would work for him and with him again in a heartbeat.

Forward-looking Perspective

I have known Grant Walsh since 1999, when he invited me to join his leadership team at St. Peter's Health System in Hamilton, Ontario.

Grant brings a confident, forward-looking perspective to leadership and he consistently challenges teams to stretch, grow and explore new ways of working. He is never afraid to explore new approaches to team development and community partnerships, and his extensive track record in both C-Suite and governance roles reflects this commitment to innovation.

Grant is also a committed colleague who invests in long-term professional relationships and partnerships. As an advisor and consultant, he offers candid insight, clear strategic direction and deep experience that continues to benefit many leaders and organizations.
